Users now have the ability to record On Demand and Catch Up programming direct to their Sky box from an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
The feature only works when the user's tablet or smartphone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as their Sky box, but the broadcaster is working on an update to enable recording on different connections.
"This great new feature capitalises on the iPad or iPhone touchscreen to make it easier than ever to browse and discover something new to watch, regardless of whether you are near your Sky+HD box or elsewhere in your home," said Sky's director of TV products Luke Bradley-Jones.
"So when you've got a house-full this Christmas, rather than interrupt the kids' cartoons or the big match, you can now browse through the On Demand movie listings from the kitchen whilst making dinner, and find the perfect film to watch later on."
He added: "This innovative new feature gives people another great option to discover and plan great TV to watch - and along with the other updates to our Sky+ On Demand service this year - gives millions of Sky customers the most comprehensive and easy-to-use way of enjoying TV on their terms."
Earlier this week, Sky updated its Sky Go application for Android devices, adding support for an additional 14 devices as well as the latest operating systems.
