The computing giant has increased manufacturing orders and distribution of the device in a bid to amp up its commercial performance ahead of Christmas.
Surface was previously exclusive to official Microsoft stores and the firm's website, with analysts claiming the limited sales channels were severely hampering the product.
However, selected retailers including Best Buy and Staples will stock the product in North America this week, before stores in Australia and other territories follow suit.
"The public reaction to Surface has been exciting to see," said Surface general manager Panos Panay. "We've increased production and are expanding the ways in which customers can interact with, experience and purchase Surface."
The Windows RT-based version of Surface debuted in late October to mixed reviews. A more powerful model running the full Windows 8 operating system will be released in January.
