The update, one of the most frequently requested by users, puts the Android Flipboard service in line with its iOS counterpart, which supports both iPhone and iPad usage.

Flipboard turns the user's news feeds into a digital magazine with high-resolution images and page-turning navigations. These can then be shared with friends via social networking integration.

The service went multi-platform over the summer following a successful debut on the App Store. Its main competitors include Google Currents and Time Warner's Zite.

Flipboard is now available to download for Android tablets through Google Play.
