Nokia is reportedly working on a new Lumia-branded Windows Phone device for 2013 that will feature an aluminium body.

Sources "familiar with Nokia's plans" told The Verge that the company will use the material for 'at least one' high-end Lumia Windows Phone handset for release this year.

The aluminium device, codenamed Catwalk, would be thinner and lighter than previous Lumia models, which have featured polycarbonate bodies.

The Verge says that Nokia is planning multiple Lumia handsets for its 2013 lineup, but the Catwalk would be the new flagship model, replacing the Lumia 920.

The move to aluminium would see Nokia return to the material it used when releasing the Symbian-powered N8, before it agreed the exclusive deal with Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system in January 2011.

Apple uses aluminium and glass in its iPhone models, enabling it to create thinner and lighter handsets than most of the competition.
