Asus unveils MeMO Pad budget Android tablet

By
Asus has unveiled a new budget Android tablet dubbed the MeMO Pad.

The 7-inch device is being billed as a cheaper alternative to the firm's Google-branded Nexus 7 and a competitor to the Acer B1-A71.

Available in white, grey or pink, the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean-running slate features a WM8950 processor single-core processor, a Mali 400 GPU, 1GB of RAM, a 1-megapixel front-facing camera and a 1024 x 600 display.

Asus is targeting the emerging markets with its latest slate, selling it for as little as $99 (£61) in some territories.

The tablet comes with Google Play pre-installed as well as the full crop of Android apps, but Asus has thrown in some software of its own as well as 5GB of online storage through its WebStorage service.

The MeMO Pad has been tipped for launch in the US in April, but a UK release is unconfirmed.
