Instagram usage down by 50%, says report

By
Instagram's usage has declined by 50% over the last month, new figures appear to confirm.

Statistics from AppStats suggest that the Facebook-owned photo service has dropped from 16 million daily users on December 17 to 7.81 million on January 12.

The subscriber boycott is a result of a backlash against Instagram after the company proposed a set of controversial changes to its terms and conditions, handing it the right to profit from user's photographs.

The figures reveal a significant dip in user numbers when the proposals were announced, with daily hits plummeting to 5.2 million on December 18.

Users began to flock back to the service after the firm backtracked on the revised privacy policy, climbing back to 15.88 million, but the first three weeks of January have reportedly seen a gradual drop.

Previous reports claimed that the terms and conditions debacle had cost Instagram 25% of its user base by early January, though the firm later refuted this and reported steady growth.
