Facebook mobile app 'to track users at all times'

By
Facebook is reportedly working on a new locations mobile app that will track users' every move.

The software will run on handsets at all times, even when the device is not being used, allowing account holders to find friends in their vicinity.

Bloomberg claims to have heard about the app from two unnamed sources, who indicated that it will be released sometime next month.

Mark Zuckerberg previously identified the mobile market as a key part of Facebook's business strategy as the social network looks to capitalise on its 680 million monthly mobile users.

Mobile users were shown to outnumber their web-based counterparts for the first time during Facebook's fourth quarter earnings call, during which it was confirmed that 23% of the company's revenue is derived from the sector.

Facebook launched its Graph Search product last month as a means of making search "more social" and adding a "third pillar" to the service to complement the News Feed and Timeline.
