By
An apparent Facebook Connect glitch hit a number of prominent websites today (Friday, February 8).

Users accessing other sites were automatically sent to an error page on the social networking site without clicking on anything.

The issue affected users who were logged into third party sites using their Facebook accounts, bringing about redirection to a page which simply read: "An error occurred. Please try again later."

The problem, which affected readers of sites such as Digital Spy, Daily Mail, Washington Post, Huffington Post, ABC, Hulu and many more, now appears to have been fixed.

A spokesperson for Facebook confirmed that the error has now been resolved but did not disclose a cause, saying: "For a short period of time, there was a bug that redirected people logging in with Facebook from third party sites to Facebook.com.

"The issue was quickly resolved, and Login with Facebook is now working as usual."
