At Mobile World Congress this week, Sony Mobile Communications revealed a major marketing campaign for the new Xperia Z flagship Android handset.
The campaign, which will launch in March globally in 20 markets across TV, print, digital and external, highlights Sony's history of making acclaimed products.
Set to a remixed version of David Bowie's classic track 'Sound and Vision', the advert features people looking on in awe at one of the early Sony colour TVs; girls roller skating next to a beach using the original Walkman; someone using a Sony Camcorder to capture the fall of the Berlin Wall; and friends playing Gran Turismo on the first Sony PlayStation console.
It then cuts to the modern day and a couple using the Xperia Z to take pictures of the colourful Holi festival in India - where people celebrate with coloured powders and water - before using the phone's waterproof capability to wash it under the tap.
Steve Walker, the chief marketing officer at Sony Mobile, said that the campaign "celebrates Sony's proud heritage of innovation".
"The launch of our new flagship Xperia Z smartphone marks a milestone as it truly brings together the innovative Sony technology, entertainment and connected experiences into a single device," he said.
