Open.... have announced that after 10 months of development, online betting service Blue Square will shortly open it's doors on the Interactive service.
During the development time Open.... and Blue Square have worked closely with the ITC and Home Office in order to compile with regulatory and bookmaking legal requirements, and have now been reassured that the service meets the requirements.
The service plans to open in March 2000, which will be in time for viewers to use the service for bets on the Six Nations Rugby, FA Cup and Grand National.
Blue Square are from this week accepting registrations for the service. The registration is required to ensure that customers are over 18. Once this has been verified the customer will be issued with an account and PIN code.
Commenting on the announcement James Ackerman, Chief Executive of Open, said "Open has always set out to provide a range of entertainment, leisure, communications and shopping services to a mass TV audience. With Blue Square we give Open users who like a flutter the chance to do this from home on sporting, financial and other special events".
Whilst Martin Belsham, Chief Executive of Blue Square said, "Open will bring the Fun of Blue Square to a new group of people, from the comfort of their living room and with the ease and familiarity of the television. Our full range of sporting and non-sporting services will enable TV audiences to access Blue Square at the touch of a button, whether it is football, rugby, racing or even the Christmas No1.
