Samsung announces super-sized Galaxy Mega smartphones

By
Samsung has added two super-sized smartphones to its Galaxy range with the unveiling of the 5.8-inch and 6.3-inch Mega handsets.

The larger handset falls into the gap between the firm's Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy Note 2 tablets, coming with HD display and dual-core 1.7GHz processor.

Other features include an 8-megapixel camera, 3,200mAh battery, microSD support and the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system pre-installed.

The Galaxy Mega 5.8 comes with scaled-down specs, packing a display with a lower resolution of 960 x 540 and a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, but retaining the 8-megapixel snapper.

"We are aware of a great potential in the bigger screen for extensive viewing multimedia, web browsing and more," said Samsung head JK Shin.

"We are excited to provide another choice to meet our consumers' varying lifestyles, all while maintaining the high-quality features of the award-winning Galaxy series."

Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy Mega handsets in Europe next month.
