Twitter executive Dick Costolo has stepped down from his post as the company's UK director.

The move is thought to be related to the dissolution of subsidiary TweetDeck over its failure to submit tax records, Sky News reports.

Dublin-based accountant Laurence O'Brien is said to be succeeding Costolo as Twitter UK's director, working alongside Alex Macgillivray and Ali Rowghani.

Cardiff-based Companies House dissolved TweetDeck as a standalone company last week after it failed to respond to repeated warnings to file tax records for 2011.

The service, which allowed users to manage multiple accounts and queue up posts, will remain in operation as a Twitter product under the same branding.

Twitter is yet to formally announce that Costolo has resigned as UK director.
