The company's corporate VP Rani Borkar claims that performance will not be hit by the power saving.

Borkar added that the chips will be up to 20 times more efficient when in standby or idle mode.

Intel has also said that it will double the graphics performance on laptops - up to treble on desktops.

The hardware giant is expected to launch the new Haswell chips at the Computex trade show in Taipei in June.
