By
The BBC's iPlayer desktop app has been given a redesign which simplifies the process of downloading programmes to your computer.

The new BBC iPlayer Downloads cuts out the need for Adobe Air, which was causing issues for many.

The app itself has also been simplified and now focuses solely on downloads and offline playback.

The BBC iPlayer Downloads app is available on both Mac and PC. The new-look client requires a single installation to work and will open whenever you ask to download a programme via iPlayer.

Downloads can be queued and there is a watch list view complete with programme thumbnails. However, the new iPlayer Downloads client cannot stream live TV or radio.

The new iPlayer app can be downloaded from the BBC website.
