Lenovo has been linked with a takeover bid for HTC.

AppleDaily claims that the Taiwanese firm is open to acquisition talks after posting the first quarterly losses in its history, and names the Chinese PC maker as a prospective buyer.

The publication claims that Lenovo executives recently visited HTC for a "secret meeting" that may have been related to a potential acquisition.

Lenovo would likely manufacture handsets under the HTC moniker to keep the branding alive, the report goes on to suggest.

The company has completed several acquisitions in the past only to maintain the original branding, having purchased ThinkPad from IBM and the Medion brand.

Lenovo manufactures its own smartphones, but does not have a strong presence outside the Chinese market.
