BBC 'working to bring' iPlayer to Xbox One in the future

By
The BBC has discussed the status of iPlayer on Xbox One.

While the corporation couldn't confirm the app at this stage, it insisted that it is "working to bring" the catch-up service to the next-gen console "in the future".

"BBC iPlayer is already available to audiences on over 1,000 devices and platforms in the UK," a spokesperson told Digital Spy.

"While we are working to bring BBC iPlayer to Xbox One in the future, we have no further details to share at this time."

Microsoft recently confirmed the launch applications for the Xbox One, with iPlayer being omitted from the list.

4oD, Demand 5 and Sky's Now TV, however, will be available on the new Xbox from launch. Netflix, Twitch and Blinkbox will also feature on the console from day one.

BBC iPlayer is currently available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii. There were 10 million iPlayer programme requests on game platforms in September 2013 alone.

"We will continue to announce more partners coming to the platform and just like we did for Xbox 360, we will launch new entertainment apps every month," added Microsoft in a press release.
