BBC enhanced Connected Red Button service comes to Samsung, Sony TVs

By
The BBC has launched a beta version of its enhanced Connected Red Button service for Samsung, Sony and LG smart TVs.

Previously exclusive to Virgin Media TiVo boxes, the improved service makes use of a set's internet connectivity to deliver information and video content without the need for separate apps.

Viewers can access BBC content at any time via the Red Button, as well as BBC iPlayer catch-up content, and news, sport and weather updates.

Special events including Wimbledon, Glastonbury, Formula 1 and the Winter Olympics will have additional streams available through the Red Button too.

"Since the launch of Connected Red Button in 2012, the BBC has brought audiences more of the content they love on their TV - by simply pressing red," said BBC general manager of products and on-demand Roux Joubert.

"We're thrilled to extend this to even more viewers - and look forward to adding more features and functionality in 2014."

A list of hardware compatible with the new Connected Red Button service can be found on the broadcaster's website.
