Olympia, London -- Rockstar Software, makers of the Gearbox software that comes on ntl:home dialup internet CDs, have announced that they are developing a similar product for broadband technologies.
The new programme, on show here at ISPCON at Olympia, combines a PC checker with a service availability checker, ensuring both that customer's PCs are up to the task of running broadband internet, and that broadband service is available in their area.
Chris Langridge, MD Rockstar EMEA, explained: "Without this critical qualification data, providers can waste precious resources trying to provision consumes who's PCs do not support the demands of broadband internet."
The programme is scheduled to be available at the end of the first quarter this year. Although the company's dialup products are deployed by ntl, it is unlikely that the cable operator will deploy the broadband version - it has already selected BroadJump Technologies to provide a similar service, as reported on Digital Spy last month.
