League rejects new ITV Digital offer

The Football League has rejected a new "derisory" £60m offer from ITV Digital.

The offer - an increase of £10m on the last - was made by the company's lawyers last night, according to the Media Guardian.

The League is still owed £178.5m from the contract, due in two instalments of £89.25m. In a recent statement following a meeting of first division clubs, the association said they would not budge on the first of the two payments - due in August - but were willing to negotiate over the second.

A source told the London Evening Standard: "The new offer is derisory. Do the administrators think we have a mental age of three?"

The offer also includes a clause which removes Carlton and Granada from any lawsuit by the League, who have announced plans to sue for the amount of £500m if a satisfactory conclusion is not reached. Furthermore, it also would see the rights to the matches remaining with ITV, allowing for continued operation of the ITV Sport Channel.

ITV Digital is due to face a High Court hearing on Monday which could see it go into liquidation; stay with Digital Spy for the latest on the situation.
