Telewest discusses History Channel carriage
Published Thursday, Jun 6 2002, 20:03 BST | By James Welsh
Telewest Broadband has released a statement explaining that it has agreed carriage terms with The History Channel, news which broke on Digital Spy on Saturday.
The statement comes after The History Channel was unceremoniously dumped from Telewest's digital TV lineup on Thursday because the two entities were "unable to agree financial terms for carriage."
Joanna Mitchell from The History Channel then informed us on Saturday: "They [Telewest] called us here and a deal has been done. Thanks to all the pressure from customers especially through your website. People power works!"
Today's statement contains an explanation from David Hobday, sales and marketing director for Telewest, saying: "This is a fair deal for all parties. We are delighted to have reached an agreement so that we can continue to offer The History Channel and good value for our customers."
Geoff Metzger, MD of The History Channel, added: "Telewest has been a very good distribution partner for us. We are pleased that we have been able to renew our carriage deal with Telewest and to renew The History Channel to our viewers on the Telewest platform."
