DTT Licences: Freeview Plus offering
Published Tuesday, Jun 18 2002, 17:32 BST | By Neil Wilkes
Details of the proposed services and channels from Freeview Plus, operated by David Chance and Ian West, have been announced.
The company's application for multiplex D is being put out in conjunction with ITV/C4's bid for multiplexes B and C, and proposes a "lite" pay TV option comprising of just seven channels.
The package will cost £10 per month, and a variety of pay-per-view events and films may also be offered at additional cost. Channels such as UK Gold, Sky One and E4 would be in the lineup, which, if the company gets the nod, would launch in October of this year.
"[We] will concentrate on converting DTT customers to the pay platform in a number of innovative ways, targeting in the first instance the legacy base of ITV Digital subscribers and in-store point-of-sale campaigns and retailer incentivisation," explained the company. "It will also directly market the DTT 'free' base through advertising on the separate DTT feeds of FTA broadcasters, where these are available, and through joint promotion campaigns with channel suppliers. Subject to the agreement of all of the multiplex operators, all of the Applicant’s channels will be listed on an Electronic Programme Guide, to be developed jointly."
