Virgin to offer more HD, but not on TV

Virgin Media has signed an agreement to carry content from US-based high definition programming provider Voom.
Voom HD, which provides an all-high definition general entertainment service, will however not be carried on Virgin Media's digital cable TV service, which currently sports BBC HD as its only linear high definition channel. Instead, Voom HD will be made available to Virgin Media customers participating in the cable operator's trial of 50Mbps broadband in Ashford, Folkestone and Dover.
"With our 50Mbps trial, we are moving Broadband in the UK into a completely new world, and are delighted to be working with Voom HD to deliver a fantastic schedule of diverse HD programmes to our trialists," said Virgin Media's CEO of content, Malcolm Wall. "The 50Mbps trial is all about working with our customers to explore a whole new range of exciting applications over Virgin Media's unique ultra-fast network and we know that they are going to really enjoy having access to Voom HD."
The Voom content will be added to Virgin's 50Mbps service later this month.
