Majority happy with ITC decision

Almost 70% are happy with the ITC's decision on the DTT licences, according to a Digital Spy poll.
Thursday saw the regulator award the licences for the three multiplexes to the joint bid from the BBC and Crown Castle over a bid from ITV/C4's DTT Alliance.
67% of voters in a forum poll thought that the ITC had made the right decision.
"The ITC decision was the best choice because there are not enough people who want a subscription DTT service and there are many people like myself who have subscription TV but who want a simple way to upgrade other receivers without having to pay more subscriptions," said one poster.
"I think they made the right choice," said another. "An FTA proposal is the only one which makes sense. With the BBC behind it, consumer confidence will grow, and whilst people may not buy a box specifically for the new channels, they will be looking to get them if they buy a new TV."
Others were not so happy at the prospect of a DTT service without a pay TV element, however.
"The ITC seem to have forgotten about former ITV Digital customers who wanted a simple pay TV service because they couldn't or wouldn't get Sky or cable," explained one poster. "They are just concerned with attracting new users with news and radio channels, plus the free to air channels that weere already available anyway."
Other posters were dismayed at the channel lineup proposed in the BBC's offering.
"Good for the already unjustly overpowerful BBC. Bad for viewers. Who on earth wants to watch the junk in this offerring? The ITC should have given more thought to what people actually want to watch, rather than 'the system' and its institutions."
