Golf Channel UK ceases broadcasting

The Golf Channel UK has ceased broadcasting, with rising programming costs understood to be behind the decision.
The channel, which was purchased along with sibling station Golf TV Pro Shop Channel by JJB Sports in 2006, ceased operations at midnight on December 31.
In a statement, a channel representative posted on the Digital Spy satellite forum: "After 4 very happy years we had to take the commercial decision based upon a number of factors."
The representative cited the "cost of good quality programming... lack of availability of good programming and rights... [and] commercial revenues that were projected over the coming years" for the shutdown.
Golf TV Pro Shop continues to broadcast, and the original US Golf Channel is entirely unaffected.
