Gaming channel renames, expands to ents

XLeague.TV is to be renamed Pulse, expand from gaming into entertainment and move up the Sky EPG.
The channel has signed a deal with US broadcaster Portland TV to air male entertainment shows from its MavTV stream alongside its own content.
Pulse is turning to what it calls branded block programming. Groups of shows will be broadcast under different banners meaning the XLeague.TV name will still be used for its gaming content.
The US channel's male-targeted entertainment shows, including real extreme sport, cult sports and humour, will provide another block under the MavTV title.
XLeague.TV said it was also in discussion with other broadcasters and distributors about bringing their shows into its branded block plans.
"We are thrilled with our new positioning on the EPG. It is a testament to XLeague.TV's success and growing audience," said channel head Ray Mia. "Gaming is one of the fastest-growing and most profitable sectors, and the TV growth predicted in 2008 for this demographic is substantial.
"Pulse will be 'the' channel dedicated to this market, and with the direction and support of Portland TV, Pulse will capitalise on this with the branded blocks business model."
The change will be in place from Monday with Pulse on Sky channel 208.
