Virgin Media appoints MD of strategy
Published Tuesday, Mar 11 2008, 17:52 GMT | By Dave West

It is the first senior appointment since Neil Berkett's role as chief executive was made permanent on Friday and more are expected in the coming weeks.
Barron was previously chief executive of Scandinavian satellite broadcaster Viasat and chief operating officer at its parent, Modern Times Group. Before that he worked on UPC's video on demand operations and the Disney Channel in Europe.
Since Berkett took the role in a temporary capacity last August Virgin has increasingly focused on its fast broadband and video on demand services. He said Barron would build on this work.
"Virgin Media has some important natural advantages that we are determined to exploit in order to grow our business and deliver a genuinely differentiated proposition that meets consumers’ changing expectations," said Berkett. "Andrew’s experience will be invaluable in helping us meet this challenge."
