Some "older" equipment has been unable to display DTT services broadcast from the Sutton Coldfield transmitter since the changes were implemented on May 28.
Models known to be affected by the change are the Daewoo DS608P, Labgear DTT100, Triax DVB 2000T, Portland DP100, Daewoo SV900 and Bush IDVCR01.
"It has been necessary to carry out some network enhancements in the Sutton Coldfield transmitter region," Freeview said a statement. "Unfortunately, as a result, some older digital boxes being used in Freeview homes in Birmingham and other parts of the Midlands will stop working.
"In 2002 when Freeview launched there were around 30 TV channels," said a statement. "Since then DMOL, the body which manages the digital terrestrial platform, has made ongoing enhancements to the infrastructure to provide the data and information needed for Freeview’s interactive services, digital radio stations and extra channels (now 40+).
"The above boxes - representing around 1% of all Freeview equipment sold to date - will no longer be able to function due to the necessary network changes and so the affected homes will need to replace their equipment to continue receiving the Freeview service.
"Customer satisfaction is of paramount importance to us and we will make sure those affected are given helpful information and guidance on replacement products so they can continue to enjoy the Freeview service as quickly as possible."
