Available for download from Nokia's Ovi Store from 4pm, the app will give fans the "latest information on the series in their pockets". It will be compatible with a broad range of Nokia smartphones, including the new Nokia N8.
Designed to extend TalkbackThames's X Factor brand, the app features four phases to mirror the four stages of the show: live auditions, Boot Camp, judges' mentoring and the public vote.
Users downloading the app will be able to receive news and backstage gossip from the programme, as well as view exclusive video and photo content featuring the acts and judges, including the latest outfits worn by Cheryl Cole.
They can also exchange their views with fellow fans via a rating function and access links to social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.
"The X Factor app is a great new way for fans to connect and engage with the show," said John Nichols, Nokia UK marketing director.
"Working with TalkbackThames digital and ITV, we will be providing some amazing content and information about the show, giving users instant access to the nation's favourite TV series and its stars on the go."
TalkbackThames head of digital Robert Marsh added: "An important part of our continuing strategy to evolve the X Factor brand is to build its presence across multi-platforms to further enrich viewers' enjoyment of the show. Phone apps are a key area of development for us when we look at the digital extension of our entertainment brands.
"We are always looking for new ways to deliver great content to fans, working alongside our partners such as ITV and Nokia, and The X Factor app puts all of this at their fingertips."
