Had the machine 5 years and have not had a problem till now. The open/close to insert the dvd will not open. All I am getting that i get is clickiing noise. Tried but fix it myself but after looking taking the top off it was difficult to get any further. I suppose 5 years down the line it has to go to DVD heaven as it is not worth repairing at todays prices. Anyway I'll need a digital one for our area shortly

It is the most user friendly DVD recorder I have come across & it is brilliant when it works but some time , for no apparent reason it goes in to preparing mode & corrupts the DISC & looses the already recorded material.

I have owned this model for some 20 months now. Recording quality is excellent from an external source, but the internal tuner is a waste of time. The Easyguider GUI is a doddle to use, making it by far the simplest DVD Recorder I have ever used, on par with VCRs in that respect. The biggest downside is the poor build quality. In 20 months my machine has been replaced twice and repaired twice. On every occasion, the drive had failed. However Liteon throw a free 2 year Manufacturer's Warranty in with every DVD recorder, so at least none of the repairs have cost anything! Ability to record to CDs (as audio or video CDs) as well as DVDs is a great bonus.

I have owned a 5005 for 18 months now and I'm generally very pleased with it. I especially like the facility that allows it to convert PAL to NTSC. It allows me to send stuff to my family in Canada (naughty I know but there you go..). It has it's foibles but DVD recording has a long way to go to reach the same flexibility as VHS. At the price, I am more tna delighted with this amazing box of tricks!

Have had the machine for 6 months and was initially very happy particularly with the help line but recently I have recorded and not been able to play back. The machine will record but then on play back will stop and lock and nothing short of switching off which takes ages. I have tried new discs and the same problem. It will then not erase. I have tried upgrading but to no avail. I recorded Holiday films onto disc which was one of the reasons for getting the machine but recently tried to play back a disc recorded on the machine and it will not play back.

Worked ok for a month or so then developed a "Shudder" on recording and playback. Sound ok. A further month or so down the line and the machine started to refuse the dvd's. It will not recognise the disc when put it. You have to open / close a number of times before you can record this means that you cannot use videoplus. Have taken back to supplier who told me that I should contact Liteon which I have done. They say I should download a newer version of the Firmware. I do not have a burner so they are going to send me a copy from Holland. Will wait and see
