I love this phone - but can someone please tell me WHY it can't be unlocked? I don't want to stay on contract - I want to go pay as you go on two sims because I spend a lot of time in France - I'm reluctant to waste such a good handset........

“Great phone, if you want to stay with your network forever!” The Nokia 6630 is a strange looking thing, when it was first released it took a while for people to get used to its strange design. Once its name was out there and the great quality of the phone was shown off – the phone’s popularity rocked. The 6630 is a smart phone which runs on the Series 60 platform of the Symbian operating system. It is a 3G WAP phone and was one of the first released which supported true global roaming (working in Japan) The phone comes with a lot of software bundled; Realplayer is pre-installed on the phone allowing you to play MP3’s and videos. Most commonly these are shared through the Bluetooth capability on the device. A package which allows you to view Microsoft Office files is also bundled. A USB cable is supplied with the phone and PC software is also bundled. This allows you to install the phone as a modem onto your computer – and also view pictures off the phone or transfer files to/from the phone. The phone also boasts a 1.3megapixel camera which, when downloaded to a computer, are fantastic quality for the size of the phone. A 65,000 colour TFT LCD screen gives plenty of room for the viewing of pictures of SMS messages. Battery power is great on the phone, but sadly shortened dramatically through constant use of Bluetooth/WAP. It weighs 127 grams and measures at 110 mm × 60 mm × 21 mm. There are only a few downsides to this great phone; The BB5 software on the phone means that it currently cannot be ‘unlocked’ so that it can be used on other networks. Operators at current, charge customers £20+ for administration fees as they have to go to Nokia for an unlock code. This means mobile phone shops on the high street currently do not have the technology to unlock this model. The case of the Nokia 6630 is a very strong one, taking a lot of beatings from being dropped etc... the camera lens on the back is protected by a rubber ring, something which wears down and breaks off with continued usage i.e.: putting in pocket and taking back out constantly. To summarise, the phone has a lot of great features and is a good looking phone to have. Only a few downsides but I’d give it a 4. Definitely a 5 when the unlocking software is released!
