While not as well known as Panasonic or Sony, Oppo has created a great buzz across the internet for their up-converting DVD players, which have been benchmarked to be one of THE best out there. I own the DV-981, and I can tell you that standard DVD's look awesome, with great clarity, colour, sharpness, and detail. You can up-convert to 1080p depending on your TV's conversion (mine only goes up to 720p, but I still get a fantastic looking picture). PAL/NTSC compatible, with region code hacks available on the internet, and easy to do at that. If you are like me, and are not interested in the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray wars, then by all means, this player is the greatest!!
