I had problems with our DMR-EX75 last year in that the playback on recording C4 programmes suddenly goes into slow motion. There is no warning for this and I thought the problem was solved about a year ago when Panasonic sent me a firmware update. Everything has been OK since then and I recorded Come Dine With Me on C4 last night and when I watched it back it started doing the same. I have contacted Panasonic again who say there is no further update. Has anyone else had this problem again?

The only cure I managed to get for the problems with the DMREX75 is a Samsung DVD-SH987M. Never again will I buy a Panasonic product.

Had one of these for a while and it's been a great player. every now and then I get the U80 thing but not a big problem. My digital tuner died (analouge fine) but there are good forums to fix this (it's usually just one capacitor. easy to fix)

From previous 2 posts about DVD drive failure. Panasonic Customer Care is a waste of time. They sent me a firmware disc despite telling them that the DVD drive was u/s. Wrote to MD and got very patronizing letter back. Considered Legal action under SoG Act. Complained to Currys Complaints Dept and now received a large discount off a new one a Samsung with a 320Gb HDD. You can be sure that Panasonic will NOT be the name on the box of anything I buy in the future!

Thanks Matthew. My update CD came yesterday and has worked a treat [they did send a previous one which the unit would not accept, but Panasonic were very helpful and sent another in case original was faulty. No more flashing colours for us...yippee!

Just a quick heads up to those of you experiencing the colour fading/pulsing issue on the channel 4 group of channels on Panasonic DVD/HDD recorders(it also happens on Dave Ja Vu and one or two other channels). GOOD NEWS FOR YOU! There is a fix....several of us on the avforums have received a CD with the latest firmware off Panasonic, after emailing them our details and a description of the fault. In my case it is a DMR-EX75. My update CD came the other day. Took about 10 mins for the machine to update, and afterwards all the colour was 100% perfect on every channel. Where previously I had DVB Version 1.16, it now says 1.20...so obviously it contains a few updates. I suspect it is more deep/complex than a simple DVB version change though, as it is a big file...so don't go expecting a gernal over-air download. YOU NEED TO CONTACT THEM. Hopefully this FW update will also correct the slow-motion recordings on Channel 4, too. I have set it to record 1 hour each night from tonight, as a test. I shall let you know how it goes.

We have had the DMR-EX75 between 3 to 4 years. During that time it has worked perfectly until about a week ago with the DVD player failed. Altough it is dissapointing, we can not complain has it has burnt well over 500 discs during its lifetime, and we can still use the Freeview and HDD.

I've had a DMR75EX for just over 3 years and it has been an excellent machine, with crystal clear pictures from the recordings on hard drive. The hard disc has never been filled up even though I always use it on highest quality recording. The U80 fault code has come up many times since new but turning off/on always clears it and it has only done it twice in the middle of timer recordings. However when I turned the machine on 2 days ago I couldn't receive any tv progs and it said no signal. I checked the signal condition bar on the machine and although the strength was fairly high the quality was at zero. I tried my TV for digital reception and that was fine, so I then tried analogue on the recorder and this was good too so it proved my aerial and connections are OK. I have come to the conclusion the digital tuner has died. I did notice that channel 4 and E4 had fading colour a few months ago but thought nothing of it. I now realise having read the posts here that it was the forewarning of worse to come. I will take a look inside my machine and see if the digital tuner is a seperate box. If it is I will try to get a replacement. If not then it will go to a/v heaven and I will buy a new HDD recorder with HD freeview. 5 stars when working. 1 star now.

Had 2x Panny DMR-98 gone faulty DVD drives. I believe most of the DMR machines are similar. Look on ebay, enter PANASONIC DMR FAULTY as your search in CONSUMER ELECTRONICS and be prepared for a shock as to the number of faulty DVD sections in equipment under 3 years old. Bloody disgraceful!

Further comment to 19/03/2010. The third Panasonic set top box has become faulty (20/03/2010)! Here we go again. Still waiting for a reply from Panasonic 'Customer Care', a misnomer if ever I heard one! Why is it that I have a VCR bought in 1996 and a radio bought in 1974, both working perfectly and have done since new? Both are made by Philips, what do they know that Panasonic doesn't?
