Hewer: 'Howard lacked courage and flair'

Nick Hewer has said that the latest fired Apprentice candidate Howard Ebison lacked "courage and flair".

Hewer insisted that he was right to question Ebison's business bravery in the boardroom shortly before he was fired by Sir Alan Sugar, arguing that the 24-year-old didn't have the necessary skills to work for the multi-millionaire boss.

"When I asked if he thought he was a 'brave warrior' his face betrayed, I thought, the realisation that he is, in fact, lacking in ambition and courage - something Sir Alan has in spades," the former PR boss told The Mirror.

"He's a decent young man but is destined for now to remain in middle management because he lacks that vital entrepreneurial flair."

Meanwhile, Hewer also joked that his colleague Margaret Mountford had formed a small infatuation with a dinosaur toy from this week's TV shopping challenge.

"Her affection for that dinosaur continued off camera," he said. "She tickled it under the chin and smiled as it purred with pleasure. Maybe I'll buy her one for her birthday."
