Peak-time news on BBC Three will take a behind-the-scenes look at media rivals, revealing how stories develop.
The News Show - a fifteen minute news segment set to join digital channel BBC Choice when it rebrands as BBC Three next month, will show how stories are presented in certain ways, to give particular effects.
"We'll be looking at how stories get to be where they are - why the Mail runs a story on one page, when the Sun runs it on another," said Mr Murphy, station controller at BBC Three.
The show will be hosted by BBC Radio 5 presenter Julian Worricker with Sangita Myska and Tazeen Ahmad.
Regular news reporting will form the basis of most of the show, with the media coverage filling just one section.
