Shaun Ryder will appear in Shameless, reports The Sun.

The Happy Mondays frontman is thought to have picked up $1,000 filming his cameo scenes for the Channel 4 programme.

A show insider revealed: "Shaun is a really huge fan of Shameless so we got him in for a cameo. He thinks the show is funny and his scenes in it are especially hilarious. He has got a very dry sense of humour."

The singer's role allegedly coincides with a plot line that sees Micky and Shane Maguire, who dresses up as Morrissey, set up a "Madchester" firm to take tourists around the city's music landmarks.

"Shane looks brilliant as Morrissey - he's more convincing than Shaun as Shaun, who sent himself up a treat," the insider said.
