Steadman: 'Gavin & Stacey hit home'

BBC Pictures

Alison Steadman has claimed that she feels "bereft" that Gavin & Stacey has ended.

The actress, who plays Gavin's mother Pam in the programme, added that she feels strongly about the show's characters.

"There haven't been many shows I've done where I've finished and actually felt quite bereft," she told The Mirror. "But I really, really do about Gavin & Stacey. I feel the characters really are my family and Mick and Pam's house is my home.

"This job has gone right to my heart. It's such fun. But I strongly suspect there won't be another series."

Steadman also praised James Corden and Ruth Jones, who write and appear in the show, and added that she knew that she had to take the job when she read the first script.

"Pam was there loud and clear to me," she explained. "I could hear her voice. We knew we had a gem here.

"James and Ruth are such brilliant writers. They're good but very different. James is so anarchic and risky. Ruth has got a wonderful sense of humour but she also has that female tenderness. All of that coming together is very special."

Gavin & Stacey is on Thursdays at 9pm on BBC One.
