In addition to episodes of Queer As Folk's fifth and final season, Showtime is planning to air films and documentaries showing "that gay Americans, despite decades of civil rights advances, are still struggling for acceptance and equal rights."
Highlights of the programming include:
- Damaged Goods: June 14, 10pm. One hour documentary tracking the lives of five people living with HIV/AIDS. The programme follows each person from the moment they're diagnosed with HIV/AIDS through treatment programmes and acceptance.
- Jack: June 19, 5:05pm. Emmy Award-winning original movies starring Anton Yelchin as Jack, a 15-year old boy who must come to terms with his parents' divorce and the fact that his father is gay. The film shows Jack fighting homophobia at his school and coming to terms with his family.
- We Are Dad: June 19, 7pm. Documentary about two men who have been deemed "unfit" by the state of Florida to adopt the five children they have raised since birth, even though they were viewed as capable foster parents for the "unwanted" children born HIV positive. When one of their children, now a teenager, was discovered to be HIV negative - and therefore "adoptable" - the state of Florida decies to remove him from his home and his parents.
- Same Sex America: June 28, 8pm. Film following several gay and lesbian couples trying to make sense of the civil rights clash over gay marriage. The documentary examines both sides of the debate, beginning in Massachusetts, and discusses the right of a family to define itself without interference from the state or federal government.
- Shook: June 28, 10:40pm. Dramatic short film about a woman who discovers her husband is bisexual and that she is pregnant. Concerned about the child, she gets tested for HIV and tries to understand her husband's relationship with a male friend and its impact on their marriage.
