Rob Fulton, 36, of Sydney scooped $1 million AUS (£400,000) in an episode broadcast Monday night down under. The graphics designer is the first to do so in more than six years and 281 episodes; nine contestants had previously reached the final question but all had opted to keep hold of the cheque for $500,000.
Fulton told reporters that he answered the final question - the answer to which he was uncertain - because he had "nothing to lose". "I didn't really have a lot," he said. "I'd only been going out with [my girlfriend] Claire for seven months and I lived in a one-bedroom unit. I wasn't really heading anywhere … so I thought, 'I've got nothing to lose'."
