'Everwood' is back (on ITV)

By Neil Wilkes, Editor
Namrata: "Hey! Was just wondering - will ITV or ITV2 be showing a repeat of the Grammys?"
Neil: You've got one last chance to catch the Grammys: this afternoon (Saturday) at 3pm on ITV2.
Katie: "Do you know if there are any plans for 24 to return to the BBC to continue airing from season 3 onwards? If not is it likely that any other terrestrial network will pick it up? I know it is just about to air on sky but for all us poor people that is no good. Please help!"
Neil: Nope. Sky have the rights and they're not sharing. So it's either catch the repeats on Sky Three via Freeview or buy the DVD boxsets (they're a steal at £16 per season through some of the ads running on this site - keep your eyes peeled).
Pete: "Do you know if UKTV Gold are planning to show any of the later series of Baywatch - they have just finished showing the 1st series."
Neil: Yes! Seasons two and three will be shown over the coming months.
InigoMontoya: "Apologies if this is not the first such request, but can you use your contacts to find out what on earth is going on at Living? Their website still lists VM in the 6:05 Sunday timeslot, but tuning in gets you "The Biggest Loser." What is going on?"
Neil: No, it's definitely Saturdays at 11am for the foreseeable future. The original plan was to strip it at 6pm but that has been changed - clearly the website hasn't caught up yet.
Anon: "Do you know when Living TV will start showing new episodes of CSI? I've missed some on five and am getting confused by the mixed seasons!"
Neil: Living is currently on season five and will wrap it with the Tarantino finale on Feb 24 and Mar 3. Five has actually done quite well on the acquisitions front lately and snagged the first-run rights to a number of shows like CSI and House. Season 6 of CSI, therefore, will air on Living later in the year.
Alison Le Huray: "I am a big fan of The Amazing Race and am currently watching many of the previous races on LivingTV2, however, I noticed that in one of your recent email answers you referred to Series 8. Are the current races shown on another channel, I would hate to think that there is some more races that I am missing out on! Could you please confirm which channels it is shown on and when."
Neil: Rest easy - Living TV 2 is the only UK channel to air The Amazing Race right now. Season eight - a family edition, with teams of four - has already aired in the US and season nine begins there at the end of the month. Unfortunately Living only holds the rights to seasons three to seven but I'll try and find out whether there's any interest in picking up more.
Laura Bentley: "I saw the first episode of Close to Home on LivingTV however i've missed at least the next two episodes. Do you know if they will have a catch up day/evening like they do with many of their other shows? If so, when will it be?"
Neil: There's nothing planned at present, I'm afraid.
Bill Foster: "2 episodes only of Surface have been shown on terrestrial TV in the UK, has it been dropped? I do not have Satellite, digital etc."
Neil: It's been dropped by ITV1 but can still be seen on ITV2, with premiere episodes on Saturday afternoons (weird, no?).
GC: "What is going on with The Simpsons on Channel 4? They used to show brand new episodes on a Friday @ 9pm but now they have disappeared. Will they be back?"
Neil: Well there are normally only 22 episodes a season and they tend to just show one season a year. Interesting to note, however, that the "new" episode on Friday evenings tended to score lower in the ratings than the 6pm repeat.
Andrew: "When CW was announced they named VM as one of the shows on the schedule. Has it been officially picked up for a third season?"
Neil: Not officially, but it's as good as. The writers have already come up with next season's mystery (select text to reveal), which is set at Veronica's new college.
Ryan: "With this new network replacing THE WB and UPN in september, does that mean that the shows from both networks will finish? As I assume they can't show them all on one network, are any safe? I am hoping for One Tree Hill and Charmed to remain."
Neil: No, some will survive and others won't (almost worth a reality show in itself). Remember that every season a network sheds shows - so this time round at least twice as many shows will have to be disposed of. That said, I think the new network - if they have sense, they'll rename it before the autumn - will exercise more caution when it comes to axing shows this season as I suspect they'll want to bring some familiarity and stability to the lineup for both advertisers and viewers. To that end, I predict Veronica Mars, Supernatural, Smallville, Next Top Model and Gilmore Girls will all be back while it's looking very shaky for Charmed, One Tree Hill and DS favourite Everwood.
Andrew: "Will the Oscars be shown at all this year (even highlights) other than Sky Movies 73 or whatever it was last year???"
Neil: The ceremony airs live the night of Sunday, March 5 at 1am on Sky Movies 1 but if you're poor, worry not. DS will have live coverage on the site, or alternatively, a two-hour highlights show airs on the Monday night, 10pm on Sky One and Tuesday at 9pm on Sky Three.
Pascale: "Hi Neil - do you know if the Dr Phil show is due to return to Sky or elsewhere this year?"
Neil: Yes, Living TV 2 will air it, weekdays at 11am (and 4pm) from Monday, March 6. Although I've never liked him - for some reason he reminds me of the Bear in the Big Blue House.
James R: "Hello. First of all great column. Keep up the good work. Any news of when the second series of The Apprentice UK is scheduled to start?"
Neil: This was finally confirmed this week: Wednesday, Feb 22 at 9pm on BBC Two.
Robert: "Hi, I am really getting into Surface on ITV2. I notice the first season is only 13 episodes and was wondering if this show has been commissioned for a second series in the US?"
Neil: The first season is actually fifteen, and ends with a cracking episode. I think it's really been underrated both over there and here - it was a slow starter but grew to expose a good underlying plot, despite some ridiculous diversions (watch out for a makeshift submarine in the weeks ahead). In fact I'd stick my neck out and say it is amongst the best of this season's new fare. As for a second season - NBC say they are undecided and it really could go either way... but if I had to bet, I'd say it won't be picked up.
Jonathan McCrae: "Is there any official broadcast date for series 2 of Everwood on ITV?"
Neil: Hurrah! At last we have an airdate - weekdays at 2.30pm from February 27, just after Loose Women. And I have some good feelings for season three...
Okay, just before I go, enough time to remind you about the absolutely unmissable fifth season premiere of 24, this Sunday at 9pm on Sky One (Here's a tip: don't turn up late). And do let me know what you make of it afterwards.
Also, a heads-up for those who may have missed The 4400 first time round - season one is repeating on Sky Three from next Saturday (Feb 18) at 9pm.
More next Saturday!
