Channel 4 has commissioned a new factual series examining some of the worst weather phenomena to hit the UK.

Britain's Worst Weather, a 4x60' series from Pioneer Productions, will investigate floods, storms, lightning and snow through archive footage and on-location footage from some of the most notorious weather black-spots.

"It's often assumed that the UK escapes the more violent weather experienced around the planet," said series producer Mike Beckham. "We think phenomena like hurricanes couldn't happen here - but it can, and it has. This series will provide viewers with the most up-to-date and comprehensive understanding of these ever-increasing natural occurences."

Britain's Worst Weather is due to TX later this year.
