The infamous "outback murder" case that gripped both media and public around the world is to be made into a TV movie.

The film will tell the story of the murder of British backpacker Peter Falconio and the attempted abduction of his girlfriend Joanne Lees in 2001. Bradley Murdoch was charged with Falconio's murder, despite no body being found and apparently conflicting evidence. The media were skeptical of Lees' account of events and were baying for her blood.

Joanne Froggatt (See No Evil: The Moors Murders, The Street) will play Lees, while Bryan Brown (Breaker Morant) will play Rex Wild, the lead prosecution lawyer on the case.

The movie - a joint production between ITV and Australia's Network Ten - will air in 2007.
