Fincham was unhappy when makers decided not to include the character of Friar Tuck in the forthcoming second series of the programme. He had previously announced that the comic character would appear on the show, after fans were upset about his absence from the first series.
Producers are believed to have vetoed Fincham's suggestions because the second series is "darker" than the first and the character would not fit in.
"I have no idea what happened - I thought it would be fun to have Friar Tuck," Fincham told The Sun. "I think we need an inquiry. They have slightly left me high and dry - I announced it and it's not happening. I suppose it just shows you the limits to my powers as BBC One boss."
