The 26-year-old has signed up to host live two-hour show The Guinness Book Of World Records - Live! on NBC.
A friend told The Sun: "It's a huge opportunity for her. Loads of British stars try to make it in Hollywood but only some succeed. She will be getting primetime exposure on one of the country's biggest channels.
"There is even talk of her doing other things after the Guinness show. It's a dream come true."
Fellow presenter Cat Deeley found success in America two years ago as the host of reality show So You Think You Can Dance?
Cotton previously presented Top Of The Pops, The Xtra Factor and Children In Need as well as co-hosting a show on Radio 1.
She reportedly beat hundreds of US presenters to land the job.
The Guinness Book Of World Records - Live! airs in the US on Sunday.
