Five plans to bring back 'Minder'

Shane Richie in 'EastEnders'

Five is working on a revival of Minder that could reportedly star Shane Richie.

"Scripts are in development with a view to a series being commissioned later in the year," said a channel spokesman.

The cast has yet to be confirmed but reports said it was hoped Richie would take the Arthur Daley role previously played by George Cole. A source said: "There has been a lot of interest in Richie's next big role after leaving EastEnders and they think he would be perfect."

In the original Dennis Waterman played "minder" Terry McCann. It is not known if anyone is yet lined up for his role.

Minder will be produced by Talkback Thames which merged with original producer Thames Television in 2003. Five and Talkback, via parent FremantleMedia, are both owned by RTL.

The show is being handled by Five's controller of comedy Graham Smith and Talkback head of drama Johnathan Young. It could be on screens in the autumn, according to reports.
