Russell Brand auditioned for a role in the Channel 4 comedy series Peep Show, one of the show's stars has said.

David Mitchell revealed that the Radio 2 DJ and Forgetting Sarah Marshall star was snubbed by producers for the part of Super Hans.

He told the BBC: "Russell auditioned for the part of Super Hans before he was well known on the first series.

"So he was almost in it. But I bet he would be a handful now."

Super Hans is played by comedian and Star Stories actor Matt King. A fifth series of the sitcom, which follows the lives of flatmates Jeremy and Mark, aired in May.
