How does the new show work?
"Basically it's a clips show and each episode is an hour and a half. There are 30 clips in each of the five shows. The episodes are called "Caught on Camera", "Busted on the Job" and "Cop Chases", things like that. I saw the first episode all pieced together yesterday and I found it hilarious. The writing's really good, the clips are really funny. It's just a nice way to relax in front of the television."
Some of the clips sound quite disturbing. Did you ever find yourself unable to watch them?
"One of them involves the police shooting a dog in the head. That was a bit much. The police pull a family of three out of a car, put them on the floor under the pretence that there has been a robbery, the dog walks towards them and the police shoot it in the head with a shot gun. The family are in hysterics screaming and crying, then the police find out that [the family] haven't done anything and they've killed an innocent dog. Another one involves a guy holding his kid hostage to try and get over the Mexican border into America. But nobody dies and it's all a bit tongue in cheek. Apart from, obviously, a dog being shot in the head, which is quite extreme."
You found fame on EastEnders. Would you like to work on a soap again?
"Yes, absolutely, I love EastEnders and I loved my time there. It was a regular job, and also on a soap you get to develop a character over a period of time, and I quite enjoyed that. You get to add your own little traits and after three years you can play with it a bit more. Whereas if you're turning up for a one-off, all your preparation is done at home before you go. I love the stability of a soap, you know?"
So you'd return to Albert Square if they offered you the chance?
"I would go back in a heartbeat, but I can't see it happening personally."
Do you still watch the show?
"I don't really watch it, no. Every now and then I'll tune in, but it changes so suddenly. I don't think there's hardly anyone there from when I was in it! I like Perry Fenwick, who plays Billy Mitchell, I like watching him. I tune in when I can, but it is on at a funny time of night."
Your appearance on I'm A Celebrity... caused a lot of controversy. What are your feelings, looking back at the experience?
"Now I can look back and just gain from it. I really enjoyed it. I laughed hard for five days and that was like a therapy in itself, that kind of tonic. I've met Cerys out of it and I can't complain. I had a great time!"
Do you get upset when people write stories about you and Cerys in the tabloids?
"I've got to take it with a pinch of salt. That's nothing to do with me, all that kind of talk. All my family and friends know I'm very secure with who I am, so all that kind of talk doesn't really bother me. I've had people telling stories about me that I've never even heard of , or even met."
Would you go back on another reality show?
"I don't think so, man, I don't think those kinds of things are for me. Apart from meeting Cerys, it didn't really work out for me."
How are things with you and Cerys?
"Everything's great, we're really happy with each other."
Have you stayed in touch with any of the other contestants on the show?
"I've not seen any of them. Oh actually, Lynne Franks. I had a bit of early supper with her one night, a couple of months ago, but that's it. I haven't heard from anyone else really."
Ultimate Countdowns airs Fridays at 9pm on Bravo.
