Factual

ITV1’s factual line-up this Winter is headed by a series to mark The Queen’s Golden Jubilee featuring unprecedented testimony from friends and family. The Queen’s Story offers an extraordinary insight into her life and reign, from the post-war years through the birth of the permissive society and now the modern monarch. The Queen’s Story is the portrait of a life, and an institution.

The latest in the award-winning strand from Carlton and TWI is The British Empire in Colour, charting Britain’s imperial path from the zenith of the Indian Raj to the eventual disintegration of the Empire. For 200 years Britain was the most powerful nation in the world, with an Empire which ruled over one quarter of the people on earth. Rare footage and personal diaries and letters from the era explore the British Empire through the experiences of the rulers, and the ruled. And the Fifties and Sixties are given the colour treatment in a major series exploring the lifestyle revolution of a groundbreaking era, from the rise of the modern teenager to our love affair with the car.

There’s a new season of Real Crime films this Winter and acclaimed documentary makers Brook Lapping explore some of Britain’s most shocking cases of serial murder in To Kill and Kill Again. Plus, the team behind Elizabeth and The Six Wives of Henry VIII turns its attention to World War II for a documentary drama revealing the true story of The Great Escape.

Contemporary factual comes with a look at the sometimes shocking world of Club Reps as Club 18-30, Britain’s number one youth tour operator, opens its doors to cameras for the first time. And After They Were Famous reunites the Walton children to remember the stories behind the much-loved serial.

Comedy and entertainment

New characters join ITV1’s comedy and entertainment line-up this season as Harry Hill makes his ITV1 debut; and Mr Bean is back, but this time as an animated character. Rowan Atkinson supplies the trademark voice and has been filmed for every script to capture his unique movement as Mr Bean in a new series of adventures.

Fay Ripley stars in I Saw You, a new romantic comedy from the team behind Cold Feet, and Richard Wilson’s first sitcom for ITV1, High Stakes, returns for a second series. Victoria Wood tops the bill at the Royal Albert Hall in a show the critics called her best ever as a stand-up comedienne. And ITV1 goes back in time with a Rock and Pop special from The Way They Were and 80s Mania featuring pop stars past and present.
