The bigger picture: This is a modern coming of age movie starring four boys who each take a different tack towards sleeping with a girl. The four make a pact to help each other out in their crusade. Kevin wants to sleep with his girlfriend, but she only wants to hear him say he loves her. Jim's problems are even closer to home: his dad is understanding but embarrassing, giving him copies of Hustler which he then explains in cringingly helpful terms. While sportsman Oz goes after the straight girls in the choir, Finch's strategy is to pay earth mother figure Jessica $200 to spread the news that he is a bedroom Don Juan.
But the girls aren't willing. Particularly the girl Stiffler sweet-talks into a bedroom at one of his parties, who discovers that she doesn't share his taste in liquor. Highlights include Jim's clumsy attempts with a nubile Czech foreign student, broadcast over the internet to one of the toughest audiences outside Glasgow's East Side. Also Finch's gauche seduction of Stiffler's Mum, a warm, winning parody of the Mrs Robinson scene from The Graduate.
Stiffler's Mum: "I got some scotch."
Finch: "Single malt?"
Stiffler's Mum: "Aged eighteen years. The way I like it."
This is a nostalgic, funny and occasionally revolting film with a sharp young cast and some solid lines.
Vicky: "I want it to be the right time, the right place..."
Jessica: "It's not a space shuttle launch, it's SEX."
