In a nutshell: Antonio Banderas takes on the mantle as the Robin Hood of Mexican swordsman from ageing veteran Anthony Hopkins. Martin Goldeneye Campbell, also the man behind January's mountaineering movie Vertical Limit, is the director.

The bigger picture: Long before the days of the corporate logo, Zorro had the market already sewn up with his Z-shape steel slash. New bride Catherine Zeta-Jones joins Antonio Banderas and Anthony Hopkins for this smash-hit swashbuckler which rolls back the clock to the glamorous, old-fashioned values of the cinema of the 1930s. Douglas Fairbanks Jr may be gone, but Banderas does a pretty good impression.

It's been 20 years since Don Diego de la Vega (Hopkins) fought Spanish oppression in Alta California as legendary Zorro. From prison, he must find a successor to stop Don Rafael Montero - the powerful former governor who cost de la Vega his freedom. Alejandro Murieta (Banderas) is a bandit with a troubled past who is transformed by Don Diego into a new Zorro. But to complicate matters the new hero enters into a relationship with the one woman close to Don Diego's heart, his lovely daughter (Zeta-Jones).

The film has all the humour and action associated with the Bond franchise, with a threesome of stars at the top of their game. Zorro did big business at the box office and looks a treat today.
