Big Night In: MonsterMax

* When: Sunday 15 April on Sky MovieMax 1

* What: Monster films all night from 18.00

* Who: Ron Perlman, Casper Van Dien, Robert Englund, Famke Janssen, Treat Williams

In a nutshell: Creature features were all the rage in the 50s and 60s. But some of the best of the breed have been made in the last ten years, with terrific effects that will have you scrambling behind the curtains. Among the four films, which include two premieres, we've got dinosaurs, mutated monkeys, a rogue, rampant snake and something nasty in the woodshed...

The big night in runs as follows:

18.00 Prehysteria (Premiere)
A young boy discovers a nest of dinosaur eggs, takes them home and keeps them warm. There's prehistoric havoc when the eggs start hatching and the miniature sauropods start to have some fun.

20.00 Primal Force (Premiere)
An island populated by a troop of mutant baboons? They just don't make this kind of film anymore - the monkeys go wild when a plane crashes on their island. Ron Perlman is the guide picked to lead the rescuers. Entertaining nonsense.

21.30 Python
A massive python developed by the military escapes from its pen and starts snacking on the local townsfolk. Cue fun and games with some top effects and good snake gags. A solid cast with several MovieMax regulars are all good value with tongues firmly in cheeks. Even the python seems in on the joke.

23.15 Deep Rising
Action spectacular in which a gang of pirates boards an ocean liner intent on robbing everyone aboard. However, they find that someone, or something, has beaten them to it. Worse, whatever it was that killed all the passengers is still on the ship, and it's hungry...
